Isabella's Year Reflection

My year in Grade 5
My year in grade 5 was really cool and awesome. I learned
↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑↑
-Reading
Growth: This year in reading I think I got better at writing things to respond to argumentative essays, such as annotating, summarizing, pros and cons, etc.
Evidence: Looking in my reading journal and my writing pieces I can see that I have been annotating, writing summaries, and doing pros and cons anchor charts. (As seen in the pictures below.)

↑Summary
Next Steps: I think that in reading I want to work on articulating my words while reading out-load. Although I have been reading out-load lately because it was one of my goals, I think that I tend to read fast, thus, people are not able to understand me. I think working on this will help me achieve this goal even more.
-Math
Growth: I think during the first trimester I grew a lot in explaining how to do things and how I did things was one of my goals and I definitely get it. during math during the second trimester, I grew a lot at fractions. Although I have never really enjoyed fractions I have learned how to divide, and multiply fractions, and add and subtract fractions with different denominators.
Evidence: When I got better at explaining things in the first trimester is when I did a math test and I was able to write a long explanation on what I was thinking when I did a problem. When I got the test back I saw that I got exceeding on the explaining problems. I knew that I got better at fractions because in my math books I see am doing a lot more advanced work. (See in pictures below.)
←Then ↑Now
Next Steps: I think what I need to work on for middle school is remembering the meanings for mean, mode, range, etc. Ms.Kasal has taught us these vocabulary words just recently and I want to work on knowing which one means which, without using the anchor chart.
←Anchor Chart
Writing
Growth: This year in writing I grew in writing really strong writing pieces. My transitions have gotten better and let the piece move better, also, I have used a lot of stronger words such as cacophony and finally, I used metaphors and hyperboles.
Evidence: In my fantasy story I added a lot of figurative language and the things I listed above. ↑ Also, you can see my fantasy story in the link below.

Next Steps: I think I want to work on editing my piece. I have noticed that when I finish writing a piece I usually don't take much time to edit my piece and when I have my final piece I often have a lot of silly mistakes.
-Science
Growth: In science, I think I improved a lot at understanding variables and using them to help me in my science experiments.
Evidence: At the beginning of the year, Ms.kasal taught all of us about variables and I did a project including many variables. (See in the link below.) Later on, in the year I did another experiment that also used variables even when we were in a different unit. x

Next Steps: In middle school, I want to work on learning a variety of subjects such as astronomy, biology, etc. →
← Some interesting science topics
-Social Studies
Growth: I think that I grew a lot in learning about history and how many traditions were made. One example of this was when we learned about the Columbian exchange.
Evidence: During the Columbian exchange unit I wrote a journal for a young Aztec boy, and wrote about all the effects that happened because of the Columbian exchange. (As seen in the link below)

Next Steps: I want to learn more about human behavior and I want to work on editing the journal entry I wrote.

-Citizenship-CORE Values
Growth: I think that I grew a lot in learning the true meaning of compassion. I know that compassion is really important to life and we should hold on to compassion. One example of this is my speech.
Next Steps: I want to work on learning about integrity.
